Figurative art

Figurative art is an artistic style that represents the visible. It is mainly used in painting, photography or sculpture. Figurative art has the will to restituted all the details.

This is how figurative painters generally position themselves as observers and reproduce what they see. Thus, figurative art can represent the real world. However, it integrates the artist's interpretation. It can therefore be deformed or subjective as in cubism in particular.

Figurative art is moreover very often opposed to abstract art, which does not seek to represent reality.
