Abstract Art

Abstract art is an artistic movement that dominated the whole 20th century. Impressionism and Fauvism marked the beginning of abstract art.

Based on a new representation of reality, abstract art marks a break with the traditional conception of art. Thus the artists free themselves by completely evacuating the figuration.

Thus, abstract art does not represent objects or subjects from the real (or imaginary) world, but only shapes and colours.
